An old tube compressor/limiter would be fun (think Sta-Level, RCA Ba6a). A modified version of The Glue with a smoother and more hi-fi sound would be cool to have, but I suspect it would be much more fun to tackle modeling an entirely different unit next, or design a brand new one taking inspiration from some proven vintage designs. That said, so far putting The Glue across the drum submix or as a parallel drum group smasher has put a smile on my face every time!Īnyhow, I hope Andy continues to release other compressors in the future. I think the HPF in the sidechain and the range features on The Glue make it significantly more useful in more situations than the original hardware, but there are times where the characteristic attack doesn't suit the mix. Usually one of those would either be just what I was looking for, or I'd just leave the comp off.
